flue pipe :PLEASE NOTE : All flues must be installed in strict accordance with the requirements of the local Building Control Office. The connection of a gas appliance must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Single wall flue pipe : We supply the British made Midtherm Vitrelux vitreous enamelled flue pipe to enable a cost effective single wall vitreous enamelled flue system to be installed quickly and easily without the need for special tools or previous experience. The product is designed to connect directly to the Midtherm HT Plus twin wall class 1 chimney system.
Product : Midtherm Vitrelux Vitreous Enamelled flue pipe is a single wall product manufactured and coated to the highest standards, made from 1.2mm thick superior grade zero carbon steel. Following manufacturer components are coated both internally and externally with a ground coat and top coat of high temperature resistant and acid resistant vitreous enamel coating. Due to the chemical specificationof the steel usedfor this product, it provides an excellent surface for the glass coating to adhere to. Lengths and fittings have a quick and easy to use socket and spigot jointing system which is leak proof when sealed and installed as recommended. Adjustable lengths, designed to slide over a standard flue pipe, are available to ensure an exact overall lenght is achieved.
Application : Midtherm Vitrelux vitreous enamelled flue pipe is designed as a connecting flue pipe with high temperature and acid resistant vitreous enamel coating. It is suitable for use on gas, oil and multi-fuel appliances, rating up to 50kW output where appliances burn with flue gas temperatures of up to 450deg.C under continous firing and is soot fire resistant. Vitrelux vitreous enamelled flue pipe should only be used to connect from the appliance into an existing lined chimney, or a class 1 twin wal insulated stainless steel chimney such as Midtherm Type HT plus system [product listed on this website]. Under no circumstances is Vitrelux to be used externally or to line an existing chimney.
Access for cleaning : Lengths and elbows are available with doors to accommodate cleaning requirements. The doors are manufactured from brushed stainless steel which allows removal and refitting whithout chipping the enamelled finish.
Product designation and testing : Vitrelux has been independently tested at BSRIA and complies with the specific requirements of BS EN 1856-2 in accordance with the general requirements of BS EN 1443-2003. A high temperature and acid resistant vitreous enamel coating which meets the high temperature and thermal shock requirements for BS 1344 part 1 and 7, and conforms to class A for resistance to products of combustion when tested in accordance with BS 1344 part 3.
Design choice : We offer a choice of pipe finish; matt black for traditional stoves, and gloss black, gloss brown and gloss white for range cookers and high-tech stoves. 'Clean out doors' in straight flue pipe lengths provide a basic access for flue cleaning. A better choice is to use either an elbow fitting with door or a 90 deg. condensate tee and cap fitting from the rear of the appliance.
Installation - wood and multi-fuel stoves : You will require a length of vitreous enamelled flue pipe to connect your stove to the chimney system, together with a method to allow the chimney system to be swept twice a year. Decide if you want a rear flue exit or top flue exit from your appliance. Most stoves have both so you can keep your options open, but check before you buy. If you select the rear exit option, you will also require a 90 deg. bend or condensate tee. A rear flue exit will result in the stove being pushed about 200mm further into the room. Having a rear flue exit will provide good cleaning access to the flue if you use the condensate tee fitting. The flue system is swept by pushing the cleaning rods under the stove and up through the door opening on the bottom of the condensate tee. A top flue exit will allow the stove to be kept back and leave a larger hearth. You save the cost of the bend but it is more difficult to clean the flue. Your appliance may allow the internal baffle plate to be removed to gain direct access to the flue pipe. If it can't, an alternative method is needed.
If your chimney is sited on an external wall, a practical solution is to build in a soot door above lintol height on the external face of the chimney. This method not only provides direct access for cleaning the chimney and the flue pipe, but also eliminates mess inside the property. If your chimney is not located on an external wall you will have to disguise the soot door from view and take extra care when sweeping the flue to avoid soot deposits entering the room.
It is important that the appliance is sealed to the room to ensure that all the air passes through the stove and not allowed through the register plate. A non-combustible register plate is fixed horizontally about 150mm above the lintol height to the fireplace to seal off the chimney. A length of vitreous enamelled flue pipe is used to connect the appliance to the chimney by passing through the register plate. The lower end of the flue pipe is then fire cemented into the flue exit spigot of the appliance. All edge gaps should be sealed with a high temperature sealant and a rosette fitting can be used over the exit of the pipe. The register plate can be made out of metal but it is heavy to support and difficult to trim to the size of the opening. An easier, but less durable material than metal, is to use one of the many non-combustible fire boards that are used throughout the building industry to provide fire protection to structural steelwork. These boards can be easily cut and trimmed using basic handtools. Make sure that you protect your appliance and flue pipe from the resulting dust. Black plastic refuse sacks are ideal. Once the register plate is complete, seal the surface with a suitable high temperature spray paint such as a high-temperature satin black engine paint from your local car accessory shop.
Installation - multi-fuel, oil and gas range cookers : Gloss black or gloss white enamelled flue pipe is normally used to connect a range cooker to the chimney system and the trim finish of your range cooker should decide the colour you use. Installation is similar to the methods described for stoves above.
IMPORTANT : Gas fired appliances can only be fitted by a gas engineer on the Gas Safe Register.
